BOWIE’S
MYSTERY
GUEST
3rd July 1973. David Bowie fires his band then walks off stage to host a star studded party at London’s Cafe Royal. An infamous photo featuring David Bowie, Lulu, Jeff Beck, Mick Ronson and Ringo Starr captured a unknown person partying next to Angie Bowie. Fifty years later, we still don’t know his name. Who was David Bowie’s mystery guest?
David Bowie’s MYSTERY Guest
The story of David Bowie’s final Ziggy Stardust gig is well known. From the stage of the Hammersmith Odeon and in-front of a frantic audience of fans, celebrities and acolytes, he masterfully secures the morning’s front pages by declaring it to be “the last show we’ll ever do”.
The subsequent party at the Café Royal, “Ziggy’s Last Supper”, also contains a few surprises and one particularly has never had a satisfactory explanation. There are a set of photos, staged group shots, featuring David and his peers, radiating in the success that has finally arrived. However, there is a stranger, an unknown man, drinking and smoking next to Angie Bowie. In other shots, he’s laughing and joking, part of the fun and celebration. Fifty years later, it seems that history has not recorded the identity of David Bowie’s mystery guest.
I’ve corresponded with David Bowie’s friends, musicians, management, party guests, ex-MainMan employees, photographers and Ziggy tour technicians. I now need your help to try and identify the David Bowie’s mystery guest…
